Es ist Henning Mankell hoch anzurechnen, dass er seine Heldin nicht einfach glorifiziert, sondern das System gegenseitiger Vorurteile und Abhängigkeiten genau zu beleuchten sucht. Er vermeidet Schwarz-Weiß Malerei und lädt ein auf eine erschütternde, durchaus spannende Zeitreise nach Afrika.
