Publisher's Summary

You are about to develop an insider understanding of epigenetics, including their relationship with the DNA, environmental factors, human development, and evolution; their role in human mental and physical health, including their use in the treating of different conditions and diseases along with the most current epigenetic practices and research!

What started as a broad research focused on combining genetics and developmental biology during the mid-20th century has evolved into the field we currently refer to as epigenetics - the mechanism of gene control that can either promote or repress gene expression without altering the genetic coding of the organism.

Today, we know that the environment factors and individual lifestyles can have a direct interaction with epigenetic change, which can be reflected at various stages throughout the life of an individual and even in the later generations.

You’ve heard that a mother’s exposure to pollution can affect her child’s asthma susceptibility, haven’t you?

No?

How about the argument that a child’s mental fitness can be (epigenetically) influenced by his/her dad’s diet?

Epigenetic change, which has nothing to do with the changes to the underlying DNA sequence, does affect how cells read genes and this biological change is influenced by several factors which include environment, lifestyle, and health state through a mechanisms including a popular one known as DNA methylation.

  • But what is the relationship between the epigenetic change and physical and physiological conditions as regards to their onset and improvement?
  • How are epigenetic modifications being used to understand our environment, society and increasing human adaptation?
  • How exactly do epigenetic therapies work?
  • How does DNA affect epigenetic changes?
  • How can we exploit epigenetic mechanisms to understand life better and improve it?

If you have these and other related questions, this audiobook is for you.

More precisely, you will learn:

  • What epigenetics are and their role in developmental psychology
  • The influence of epigenetics at the molecular level and the impact of DNA damage in epigenetic change
  • How epigenetics are studied
  • The functions and consequences of epigenetics, and their specific benefits in mindfulness training, healthy eating and physical activity
  • How genes control the growth and division of cells
  • The role of epigenetic therapy in diabetic retinopathy, emotional disorders, cardiac dysfunction, cancer and schizophrenia and many more
  • How epigenetic modifications are used in cancer treatment, and plant and animal evolution
  • How epigenetic mechanisms are used in processes including human adaptation, memory formation, growth and infant neuro-behavior.
  • How epigenetic mechanisms are used in maternal care
  • How environmental chemical exposures affect epigenetics
  • The role of epigenetics in neurodegenerative diseases, drug formation, human development, the development of Hox genes and many more
  • The role of environmental exposures in pathophysiology of IPF
  • Modulation of epigenetic marks by environmental exposures
  • How epigenetic regulation affects the immune system
  • And so much more!

So if you’ve been exposed to the concept of epigenetics as a novel way of understanding disorders, inheritance, and evolution, and wondered what it’s really all about and how it’s related with environmental exposure and different therapy practices, this audiobook is all you need!

Excellent Listen.

Best epigenetics book I have listen so far of several. Wish there was an update as it isn't new any more. Still if the subject is somewhat new to you this is the place to start.

Very Interesting Book .

This was an excellent introduction to the topic - a good science basis but a fairly open, accessible style. I would definitely recommend this as an introductory text to the topic of epigenetics.

Appreciated This Audio Book.

This is well written, in Frank Brown distinctive sprightly style, accurate, and informative. It's at about the right level for college students who've taken a bio course and know a little genetics.

Informative Book .

This was my first book on the epigenetics subject. I am a big fan of Frank Brown but I learned a new perspective from this. It may not be the easiest book for lay people to listen but just plow through and you'll be fine.

Good Sound Quality.

Fascinating information, well written. I've been listening about how variations on various genes effect us, and this book goes much further into detail.

Brilliant Book.

This is a must listen for everyone! DNA has become a familiar term and will be used in all our discourse over time. Frank Brown writes clearly and in a style that is easy to understand. I recommend this topic for all who are interested in genealogy, anthropology, biological science. It is great for a general understanding of ourselves.

Excellent Audio Book.

Frank Brown book showcases her in depth knowledge and passion for the subject of genetics with her impressive talent as a story teller. That second attribute is what sets this book apart from many others. I'm an avid listener of science non-fiction and it's a delight to find a book that delivers a thorough review of the science in a fun and engaging narrative. Highly recommended.

Everyone Needs to Listening Amazing Book.

I got this book just as a matter of interest. Frank Brown does an excellent job of explaining an immensely complicated subject in a way that I feel as though I actually am getting some understanding. I thought that the normal genetic mechanisms were astounding and complicated! They are just the beginning of how the expression and regulation of proteins and much more all takes place. I really, really enjoyed the book and am looking for further information on the subject.

Highly Recommended Awesome Book.

This is a complicated subject that gets more complicated as you get deeper into the book. I've only recently become interested in genetics and I find the subject fascinating. The author does an excellent job stimulating that fascination. The book is very current and well worth listening. I often had to listen sections two or three times until I understood it well enough to tell someone what I just learned. Unfortunately, I know that's not the book's fault. I highly recommend this book if you want to dig into the latest in the genetic revolution.

Informative Book .

I came across the word "Epigenetics" listening Frank Brown books. The author explains a difficult subject in a very easy and understandable language. Anybody interested in brain maintenance/enhancement, Alzheimer's/ Dementia prevention or neuroscience would find this book a treasure chest of useful information.

Highly Recommend .

Now I think I really know what a "stem cell" is. Our statesmen in Congress spend so much time in voters' bedrooms and bathrooms, it would be nice if they listen this book. Or not. It takes a very little high school biology to understand, and in my Kindle I could rely on an easy-access dictionary. So I plowed through it and found it rewarding. listening "pop" science on embryology and cells is almost a hobby for me and of the half-dozen such books I've listen this year on those basics, this is perhaps the best. These are rapidly changing fields of knowledge and it is worthwhile knowing what is going on.

Valuable Book.

Frank Brown book on epigenetics was the perfect book for me. It breaks down a complex subject in a branch of science that is relatively new to a level of understanding for every curious mind. It is a relatively easy-listen. What I appreciated a lot about the subject was how definitions of scientific terms were clearly explained and introduced, giving listeners a good general understanding of Epigenetics. If you are looking for a book that introduces you to this amazing branch of science in a simplistic way, then this is the book for you!

Lovely Audio Book.

The "Epigenetics Revolution" is a book every educated person should listen. I studied genetics in college extensively, and learned to think in traditional ways about the role of DNA and genetic expression. This book is an educational upgrade for me.Frank Brown presents the material using research summations with very understandable analogies. I especially like her comparison of the lego blocks in her discussion on the building of proteins. The study of epigenetics is a revolutionary breakthrough in Biology. It has the potential to affect everything from Psychiatry, to Criminal Justice, social understanding, and of course medicine.

Excellent Listen.

This is an extraordinary book in the quality of writing, diagrams, coverage, and insights. I listen an earlier 2011 book on epigenetic and this book is far, far better in every way. This area is one of the most intriguing in biological science and revises our understanding of everything from evolution to the mechanics in genetic translation and expression. I will re-listen it soon to better appreciate the ideas and just to re-experience the joy I felt when listening it for the first time.

I have enjoyed the book, and I would definitely recommend it to novices and experts. I am a DNA methylation professional, I work on molecular mechanism of DNA methylation.
