The brand-new novel in Bernard Cornwell's number one best-selling series on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg. BBC2's major TV show The Last Kingdom is based on the first two novels in the series. From the day it was stolen from me, I had dreamed of recapturing Bebbanburg. The great fort was built on a rock that was almost an island; it was massive, it could be approached only on land by a single narrow track - and it was mine.

Arthur
What made the experience of listening to Enemy of God the most enjoyable?
The best how it could of been Arthur story I have read. Cornwell knows his history, and really makes the post British Roman dark age world come alive.
What did you like best about this story?
All of it. just a really good yarn
What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I would say that Tim Pigott-Smith is better narrator on the abridged version, but Keeble does a good job.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A real page turner. If you want to escape from your own world for a few hours then listen to these stories
Any additional comments?
Obviously not a factual story of a post Roman world of Britain, but gives you an insight into what problems a post Roman British leader would of faced in the 5th century

Superb Series and mostly superb Actor!
The story line is pure Cornwell, all great characters and fantastic storylines couched in fabulous world building! Many great characters that are incredibly well written. The voice acting is mostly sensational, Mr Keeble's accents are spot on, with one set of excpetions... the ladies are a bit hard to listen to in a falsetto that given the narrators masculine gravelly voice is un-intentionally comedic. But regardless a great actor

JK reads very well and has a good voice, but his massive over acting ruined this for me. It's rather like listening to bad farce. Although he's clearly enjoying his self indulgence hugely, I couldn't.

Best of the trilogy.
If you could sum up Enemy of God in three words, what would they be?
Epic, exciting, addictive
What about Jonathan Keeble’s performance did you like?
I thought he did a good job on the Winter King, but some of the Monty Python-esque women's voices were a bit awkward. Here though, he really comes into his own - more relaxed and reading it almost as if he wrote the book himself such is his understanding of the material.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, but it doesn't take much to make me do either!
Any additional comments?
I'm halfway through the audio version of the final book in the trilogy and it has to be said this one, Enemy of God, is the best in the series by some way. It really had me wanting to keep listening especially during the middle section as it was so exciting (and I had read the books, twice, years ago so I had an idea of what happened anyway)!

A predictible Materpeice
Where does Enemy of God rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The author is one of my all time favourites and he does not disappoint in this book. Although I wouldn't reread it, this counts as one of my favourite series of all time.
What other book might you compare Enemy of God to, and why?
As far as I'm aware, apart from the other books in the same series, there is not much to compare Enemy of God to. There are similarities to other Bernard Cornwell books in the sense that the narrator was born to the enemy of the people he now fights for. However no other book manages to mix detailed historical fact with fantasy and legend like the Warlord chronicles do.
What about Jonathan Keeble’s performance did you like?
A perfect performance. Listening to his voice is like settling into a warm bath, comfortable and comforting.
