Publisher's Summary

The year was 1915. Equipment and food supplies were totally inadequate. After battling its way for six weeks through thousands of miles of pack ice and located only a day's sail from its destination, the Endurance became locked inside an island of ice. Yet Ernest Shackleton enabled all 27 of his men to survive for over a year on the ice-bound Antarctic seas - leadership without equal. This gripping account is based on contemporaneous diaries and interviews conducted by the author with these exceptional men.

Astounding story of human perseverance

Brilliant book, great narration - but the strangest chapter breaks I've ever encountered... most chapters end in the middle of a sentence, let alone at the end of an actual chapter.

A staggering tale, well written and read.

I had heard the basics of the story before, but this book really bought home just how amazing and incredible the journey was.

My only criticism is that it would be nice to hear what happened afterwards, but that is a minor point.

Breathtaking!

Loved the voice of the narrator. This story is incredible. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Such a testament to the human spirit that they survived.

Apart from the story being 5/5 stars the reading and pace were fantastic. I will be listening again soon.

Endurance - never a truer name for an expedition

Sir Ernest Shakelton and his 27 man crew endured unimaginable (in 1915 and moreso today) hardships depravations and side of nature that would have crushed all lesser men to be dust on the wind. I believe these men were each heroes by their endurance fortitude, courage and mateship. How they all managed to survive, mentality in tact whilst living with intense hardship with no known end in sight.
Extraordinary tale of extraordinary men read impecibly.
