Publisher's Summary

Gipsy's Acre was a truly beautiful upland site with views out to sea, and in Michael Rogers it stirred a child-like fantasy. There, amongst the dark fir trees, he planned to build a house, find a girl, and live happily ever after. But as he left the village, a shadow of menace hung over the land, for this was the place where accidents happened. Perhaps Michael should have heeded the locals' warnings: "There's no luck for them as meddles with Gipsy's Acre." Michael Rogers is a man who is about to learn the true meaning of the old saying "In my end is my beginning".

Fascinating

What I was most surprised about, was that I actually did not like the story for the first 5 hours and then the last hour made me love the whole thing! Loved that! So definitely Persist! So fabulous! Agatha Christie is a master writer!

Twist in the tale

This is an excellent short mystery thriller, easy and enjoyable to listen to. It is not in the usual Agatha Christie style, with comfortable old friends like Poirot and Miss Marple on hand to solve the crime.

There doesn't seem to be any crime, at first, just a hope of romance for young Michael Rogers and a long held dream of a beautiful house. But suppose he ignores the gypsy's warnings?

Suspicious characters, twists and turns and an unusual ending. All read beautifully by Hugh Fraser who just seems to find the right voice for each person every time.

not a normal Agatha Christie

the story is pretty weak, but if you are like me and listened to all the good ones you have to take what you can get.

A very different Christie

Having read most of Christie's detective books I found this one a major change. Still a mystery though with no detective taking the lead. Written in first person the husband takes us on a journey with a great twist - just loved it. Hugh Fraser is amazing. So may characters I had to keep reminding myself they were all the work of one man.
I had no idea Agatha Christie had written books such as this, so it is with excitement I head back into the Audible catalogue to search for more of her unexpected and unusual works.

A good story

A well read story by Hugh Fraser - he makes a great narrator as well as a great Hastings on TV. Read this many years ago and I think it is not only a good mystery but a little creepy too.

a must listen

if you have seen Endless Night on TV you will find the book totally different, there is no Miss Marple! ITV did a great job writing her in to the story but she is not part of the original book.

Hugh Fraser's narration is brilliant and he really draws you in, after a time you don't see Captain Hastings narrating only the vision of each character.

Definitely give this a go, you won't regret it.

Terrific...

Brilliantly brought to life by Hugh Fraser, Agatha Christie’s stand alone novel (written when she was 76) is a chilling portrayal of psychopathy. What a great writer she was!

A Long Way from Miss Marple

I know many have enjoyed this book, but sadly it was not for me. The main character was a mixture of supposed naivety and guile and I disliked him. It was very different to Agatha Christie's usual style, which I always enjoy hearing and maybe this was a problem for me. However the narration was excellent and this kept me listening to the end.

poor and unbelievable and not one of Agathas best

It did not really feel like an Agatha Christie for me a bit disappointing and unbelievable.
