Publisher's Summary

The first prophecy:

Seed of death and dragon's womb, suffering her fated tomb.

She, our savior, the fallen's soul, shall shed her blood to make us whole.

A vengeful darkness she will arise, her love calls forth the darkest tide.

Yet, if her heart has ceased to beat, the world shall eclipse in dark complete.

Pretend Ma told me the terrible things done to me were for the greater good. That I would be a hero and fight for those who can't fight for themselves.

I'm not so sure about that.

I am sure that my time in this world is drawing to a close. I'm okay with that. I even wish for it some days. Then, I meet him. Mr. Glowy Eyes.

I'm also sure I'm a monster, and I'm certain that he's so much worse than that. But he also shows me something important. Very important. Do you want to know what it is?

Are you still waiting? I can't tell you, silly rabbit. Who gives something like that away?

Mr. Glowy Eyes is waiting, too. In the dark....

Under the bed....

I can't promise he won't eat you...but I can promise you won't mind when he does.

Contains mature themes.

Awesome novel. Lousy male narration

Ok, let’s start with that I love, love, love this story. It is a tale about monsters, with romance and humour, extreme violence and possible triggers. And it is so sweet, (if you overlook the dismembered bodies). It embraces that a persons’ beauty come from their soul, and is reflected by one’s actions and capacity to love. Strength is determined by a willingness to back up one’s beliefs, despite the costs (especially if it happens to squish a few of the ‘pretty’ folk along the way. Eh...Collateral damage or kharma?)

Sadly, the narration lets it down. The female narrator does a fairly good job, of both Iza and Phobe’s roles, although she sounds more like she is a staid 30’s or 40’s years old, rather than the somewhat more youthful and amusing 20’something I imagine Iza to be. Don’t get me wrong, Iza has been through some bad experiences which left her with a jaded/violent edge, yet, my view of her is that she still has an ultimately optimistic and enthusiastic nature, which is why Phobe falls in love with her. Justine O’Keefe sounds mainly jaded and wounded. I would like to hear more of the playful side of her.

However... (dirge music here)... the male narrator is awful. He sounds like a freaking robot. Ok, Phobe (our male lead and hotty) is definitely emotionally stunted to begin with, but, jeez, start to lighten up by the end! I really hated Aiden Snow’s rendition. Great velvety voice that he puts zero emotion into, and he seems to put a full stop at. The. End. Of. Every. Word. Annoying. Right? What a waste. He really needs to look up ‘enunciation’ in the dictionary (hint: it doesn’t mention robots or a criminal abuse of punctuation).
Zoe Parker, please tell him to lighten up in the sequels!

Otherwise, I thoroughly recommend the WRITTEN version of this novel.

***Brilliantly Dark***

I'm not sadistic just because I enjoyed this book of so much horror and suffering, I loved it because it's brilliantly written. It embodies true evil and also innocence in its purest form. It's truly an amazing book. The narrative is excellent on both narrator's, Aiden Snow' s voice gives me goosebumps.
