Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive – but not how to live

Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.

Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything.

One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world that everyone else seems to take for granted – while searching for the courage to face the dark corners she’s avoided all her life.

Change can be good. Change can be bad. But surely any change is better than… fine?

Sad, funny, original with characters that haunt you long after the end of the book. The reader was also superbly understated allowing the book to flow beautifully. Will listen and read this again soon.

Totally Original and Enthralling.

A nice listen with good characters and an interesting storyline - you kind of figure out where it is going pretty early on but still enjoyable - could imagine it as a TV series actually.

Enjoyable characters

Eleanor Olyphant is a wonderfully well thought out character, and all characters were written beautifully to interact with Eleanor so we can understand what we need to about her.

While some may find this book slow and drawn out, I found it to be well paced, dropping bread crumbs to propel me forward. I usually only listen to books/podcasts etc on my hour long trip to work & back, but I listened to this at home several evenings because I was so invested in Eleanor.

I think anyone who feels an outcast, has childhood trauma, or has felt loneliness will relate to this book & enjoy even the sad themes.

I think I learned a little about myself reading this.

The narrator is superb & I didn't want to smash my headphones to the ground when she affected a man's voice, like some I hear. I'd listen to her read a statistics text book.

The narrator brought all characters to life
