Rund 260 deutsche Polizeibeamte sind derzeit in Krisengebieten überall auf der Welt tätig. Eine von ihnen ist Carina Reinheimer, die ein Jahr lang in der liberianischen Hauptstadt Monrovia junge Polizisten ausgebildet hat. Als 2003 der Bürgerkrieg nach 14 Jahren endete, lag das westafrikanische Land in Schutt und Asche und der Sicherheitsapparat am Boden. In Monrovia sind die Spuren des Krieges bis heute nicht zu übersehen. Auf den Hauptstraßen überwachen schwer bewaffnete UN-Soldaten in einer Burg aus Sandsäcken das Geschehen. Ingesamt 15.000 Blauhelme schickten die Vereinten Nationen in das Land. Auch Carina Reinheimer gehört zur UNMIL - der United Nations Mission in Liberia. Gemeinsam mit fünf deutschen und 1.000 internationalen Kollegen ist die Polizeihauptmeisterin in Monrovia im Einsatz und hilft beim Aufbau einer neuen Polizei. Es ist bereits ihre dritte UNO-Mission, zuvor war die 30-Jährige zweimal im Kosovo.
