About this listen

"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." A wonderful companion to the obstacle is the way. While at times it almost seems self deprecating in it's nature, it delivers wonderfully salient points that we need to remember. Very enjoyable and thought provoking.

A must for anyone starting in business. I couldn't fault a single point he made. Well sourced, philosophically sound. Every young person starting out should read this book.

Interesting book and narrated well, but lots of the examples of ego driven (or non-ego driven) individuals in time were very america and hard to relate to, e.g. US military

Very American

Its lie walking in to winery that you’ve never heard of before and found a wonderful surprise. You always remember it. Very earthy in a challenging competitive world. When you get to the end you feel a whole wiser for the experience. Great book.

What a surprise

Enjoyed most of this immensely. Except when my ego was triggered, which is useful.

This book was confronting, thought provoking and a really well researched. Seeing the 'Ego' under the guise of Stoic philosophy was really intriguing and fascinating! As the book unravels extensive examples of where the 'Ego' vs. 'Self' may or may not be a factor throughout history from BC to present, you can't help but unravel decisions you've made in your own life with this book in mind. Ryan also tried his best to leave no stone unturned, seemingly having no problem inserting his own experiences whilst tackling this mammoth task authentically.

Ego can definitely be the enemy and your downfall in any given situation
