Story
Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Visitor by Lee Child, read by Jeff Harding. Sergeant Amy Callan and Lieutenant Caroline Cooke have a lot in common. Both were army highflyers. Both were acquainted with Jack Reacher. Both were forced to resign from the service. Now they're both dead. Found in their own homes, naked, in a bath full of paint. Apparent victims of an army man. A loner, a smart guy with a score to settle, a ruthless vigilante. A man just like Jack Reacher.

so so
I struggled to stay interested except the last three or four chapters. no way you can try to figure out the plot until it unfolds which makes it less of a thriller mystery and more a description of unusual events. The narrator's female voices I found hard to listen to. overall it was ok. will I go to no.6? not sure.

Can't get enough
I read the first book in paperback and loved the thinking action hero. The logic the character uses shows the depth of research Lee Child has undertaken for Jack Reacher. The only problem I have is the realisation of just how much I'm going to spend on audio books, because I intend to hear the entire series.

Reacher rides again
I am somewhat addicted to the Reacher series. Fast paced and no holds barred, which I find somewhat refreshing. I just wish I started reading them earlier.
The only criticism I have of this audiobook is that the narrator didn’t announce new chapters, which made it a little hard to find where I was up to if I drifted off to sleep. That being said, it’s only a small issue and didn’t detract from my enjoyment

OMG this is boring
"Reacher said nothing". This phrase was used over and over and it sums up the story so well. Skip this one and go straight to the next in the series. I really feel like I wasted my cash in this one. Hated it. 7 hours in and Jack has effectively been in a car ride and pretty much "said nothing".

Lee Child never disappoints
What did you love best about Echo Burning?
The story was complex - you were never sure whether Jack Reacher had been conned. I also love listening to Jeff Harding.
What other book might you compare Echo Burning to and why?
I wouldn't compare it to other Lee Child books, but I am a big fan. Every couple of years I listen to them all again.
What about Jeff Harding’s performance did you like?
His style is perfect for thrillers.

Excitement builds
Jack Reacher stories are amphetamine in writing. A friend 'pushed' me into them last Christmas - the first 2 consumed every spare moment from my week's holiday, and a good many more moments than they should have. At the time I thought luckily there were no Audible versions.
Now there are! Initially I didn't like listening to this first one I experienced. Jeff Harding has the right voice for the genre, but his women's voices sound like little girls. It took me a long time to latch into the story.
However eventually I did, and I enjoyed it. Jack Reacher is the 21st-century Odysseus, and like all good myths, this one resonates on multiple levels. In addition 'Echo Burning' builds the tension slowly, and eventually it hits a point of pushing more adrenaline than ice climbing. It kept me coming back for more. I suspect that it will for all who like reading of an interesting hero sorting through interesting problems.

The best jack reacher so far.
I loved this one. The narrator was also good and suited the story. Unlike some of the narrators of the previous books in the reacher series he had a good deep voice which suited the main character but had the knack of being able to convey the impression of female character voice without the character sounding like a drag queen.
The story is great plenty of action as usual for a jack reacher book, but the story is much more engaging with more psychological twists.
This is my new favourite Jack Reacher book.

Electric atmosphere helps build the tension
Where does Echo Burning rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The narrator made this a better story than it really was, a convincing accent help create a sense of being in Texas.
If you’ve listened to books by Lee Child before, how does this one compare?
Not my favourite but still enjoyed the thriller and left me wanting to hear more
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The scene when they were all sat around the table at the Red ranch prior to it burning down
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The story about the mexicans being hunted like wild animals when crossing the border
Any additional comments?
This is the 3rd Jack Reacher audiobook I've listen to and found this narrator to be the best.

Lost it's way a little
All of the other books in this series have been engaging from the start, pacy and with plenty of action. I found this one a bit pedestrian. It was slow to get started and really nothing much happened in the first two thirds of the book. I don't understand all of the glowing reviews in comparison with the previous 4 Jack Reacher books. It almost put me off getting the 6th in the series but it turned out that that one was my favorite so far.

UNREALISTIC MACHO RUBBISH
Jack Reacher has to be the most unbelievable “hero” in crime/thriller fiction. He is unable to make a mistake or any error of judgement, and after a while this reader began to hope that someone would put a bullet in his head. Beautifully read, however.

Holes in the plot
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I stuck with it but the plot does not have a believable base, and so as I am off sick, I thought I would just give it a go. If I had been active I would have dumped it.
Has Echo Burning put you off other books in this genre?
No, as this is one of hundreds that I have listened to and read
Which character – as performed by Jeff Harding – was your favourite?
Usually Jack Reacher, but none grabbed me here.
Could you see Echo Burning being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
I could not.
Any additional comments?
I do not like answering inapt questions on book reviews. The start of the plot does not add up. Jack Reacher is a savvy, world alert man, and the whole pick up line did not hold water at all.
