About this listen

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft. EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

An adventure and a large scale disaster all rolled into one, just as they should be. Australian and New Zealand accents do differ from each other just as do Swedish and English is our first language. Very entertaining.

Not my last Scott Sigler novel

A fast paced story. I loved the lead up to getting inside the mountain.
I had difficulty suspending my belief towards the end with the Kool suit changes, swimming the river and the time taken to escape.
I’m hoping that Mount Fitzroy is a bit tighter in that area....
We’ll narrated.

Cracking pace

The narrative was intriguing and I found myself fully engaged. There is much more sci-fi in this book than initially appears, which kept it moving.

Aside from one or two, the characters are all completely awful people. The attempts to humanize and excuse their behavior honestly comes off as sociopathic - which I assume is intended - you’re clearly not supposed to like these characters.

Ray porter the absolute legend does a brilliant job narrating this.

I recommend this if you like ‘mostly’ grounded sci-fi and can deal with the characters faults.

A survival adventure heavier on sci-fi than it seems

This is a fantastic sci fi thriller. The tension and pace just keeps building until the final moment. I'm so glad I found this book and am looking forward to finding more from this author.

What a trip!
