Disappointing but story still holds up

The shifting performers were less distracting than the earlier volume and the story is great and worthwhile listening to even after having read it. I just wish they had a better idea as to how to dramatise these. Or just using one narrator to get used to. The fault is neither with the performers nor with the story but the direction and editing. For example having introduced female characters with a female performer sounds very distracting to hear the male narrator make an attempt to declared love and passion of the female character on the next chapter. Then go back to the female narrator to tell the story of the male characters. Also the attempts to change inflection and voices by the narrator was overwrought at stages and characters sounded the same. Not satisfying.

Great chapter in the story

I enjoyed the continuation of the story, adding more depth, both to character and story.

Dune Messiah Review

Dune Messiah is a difficult book to read in isolation and needs to be read in conjunction with the wider Frank Herbert story. The book lacks the energy and intensity from Book 1, but adds further foundation to the larger story at hand. Easy listening, mixed opinion on the voices but appreciate the efforts in creating characters.

Great voices

Obviously Frank Herbert isn’t the greatest writer but his imagination is amazing. Scott Brick makes the story enjoyable no matter how bad it is.

great read for those who loved the first book

Loved it but not for everyone, light on action, heavy on politics and philosophy.

Reading the original, although I loved it, some parts were a bit monotonous. I found that audiobook format fixed that problem.

Voice acting was great and appropriate.

I'm loving Dune so far

Loved this and the audio is great. Same people as the first one. The only negative is that they changed it so the characters who have the speaking parts also read the story relevant to their character. It makes it a little confusing at times when I thought it was character dialogue but it wasn't.
10/10 series so far and looking forward to the next one.

so good.

my only complaint is that I wish the full cast of voices had been used to play the different parts.

Great sequel, better narration

I can see how this book wouldn’t be for everyone. It’s much more subtle and political than the last one. If you’re looking for action, maybe it’s not for you. However, I think it is just as good as the first novel, so if you’re loving the story, I don’t think you’ll be let down by this.

Narration was good. Not great, but good. They have three or four narrators that change every now and then, so it can be slightly confusing with the different voices, but it works much better than the hot mess that was the first audiobook’s narration.
