Nadat Kate Marshall bij het surfen bijna is verdronken komt ze in het ziekenhuis terecht. Daar ontmoet ze een oudere dame die haar vertelt over haar driejarige kleinzoon Charlie. Hij raakte elf jaar geleden midden in de nacht vermist tijdens een kampeertripje. Er werd nooit een spoor van hem gevonden.
