Publisher's Summary

What do obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, fatty liver disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke, neurological disorders and premature death have in common? All can be stoked by high uric acid levels.

Our most respected scientific literature is bursting with evidence that elevated uric acid levels lie at the root of many pervasive health conditions, but mainstream medicine for the most part remains unaware of this connection. This is especially alarming because one-third of Americans don't know they are suffering from sky-high levels, putting them at risk for developing or exacerbating potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Offering an engaging blend of science and practical advice, Drop Acid exposes the deadly truth about uric acid and teaches invaluable strategies to manage its levels, including:

  • Simple dietary edits focused on reducing fructose and foods high in 'purines' that can raise uric acid.
  • Natural hacks that lower levels such as consuming tart cherries, vitamin C, quercetin and coffee.
  • Identifying common pharmaceuticals that threaten to increase uric acid.
  • Lifestyle interventions, like restorative sleep and exercise.
  • How to easily test your uric acid levels at home - a test routinely performed in your doctor's office during regular check-ups but typically ignored.

Featuring the ground-breaking 'LUV' (Lower Uric Values) diet, Drop Acid empowers listeners with the information they need to address this hidden danger and live longer, leaner and healthier lives.

An excellent holistic userfriendly guide

Raises awareness and proposes a highly user friendly guide, to a healthier lifestyle for you and your family. It’s step by step proposals are based upon scientific peer reviewed data, and indeed it attains an holistic consistent approach.
The sole remark: more detailed data on carbohydrates and it’s concrete interaction with uric acid levels/production would be interesting as the relation with insulin is known. In particular, it is relevant to decide about sustaining a stricter keto diet.
Overall, an excellent reference.

Timely update on the uric acid story

Perlmutter pulls together a helpful synthesis of the significant recent advances in understanding of impacts of uric acid in health uncovered by research groups around the world. Teams associated with Rick Johnson and Robert Lustig have been torch bearers, each coalescing important ideas. Perlmutter has made this work accessible to a wider audience, putting it into a framework for self improvement that many will aspire to.

Peter Ganim’s delivery was clear and well paced. Unfortunately, the tone was sickly sweet and it was all I could do to get through to the end.

The first part of the book that laid out the theoretical framework was well structured. Googling the recommended supplements, there were heaps of high quality articles online that supported the advice as sound. The practical part of the book felt less valuable, setting out reasonably standard advice available through multiple other books over the past few years.

Overall, the book was a helpful summary providing strong justification for seeking to manage one’s uric acid levels through nutrition, exercise and supplements. Definitely worth a listen.

Important fact, High Uric acid levels are bad.

Im glad I listened to this book because it explained why I feel awful, and slowly advance into pro diabetes, and arthritis.
It was worth the purchase for that.
The book itself is extremely repetative, and filled. The main points ,foods to really avoid, suppliments advised should be given in the notes. The book pretty much tells us that there is very little to choose in the supermarket to eat thats not bad, even chicken.
Couldnt find allulose, tart cherrys only in juice form with sweetners. The suppliment bill a month is ridiculous.
In summary the main point Uric acid is very bad for you is now ingrained and therefore I do not resent the purchase.
I will however have to do more research to find a balanced afordable diet. I wish to eat the correct foods and not suppliments
and have some pleasure in a meal times, this book is not that helpful for that.

Confusing

So much contradictory contend. It seems that a certain “sweetener” sugar alternative allulose is being promoted and pushed, and after some careful investigation the validity of this substance or product has no or very little research results on long term use. Also the same author/ dr at one stage labeled honey as no go, no it’s good to go, after research he says, so what else will be banned today and be ok’d later, after research ?

Valuable information terrible narration

This is excellent information and everyone should hear what Dr Perlmutter has to say. HOWEVER the narration is absolutely appalling. Had I not been extremely keen to hear the information I would have abandoned this book so bad is the narrator- he sounds like he is trying to half sing the words - which he spaces and emphasises incorrectly. It is truly awful.
