In der kronprinzlichen Menagerie beobachtet er die Menschenaffen, in der Hauptsache einen kränkelnden Orang-Utan. Als der eilig herbeigerufene Tierarzt erstochen aufgefunden wird, ist für van Dusen sicher, dass dieser Mord mit der Entführung des Prinzen zusammenhängt.
