Der Mann erfährt von einem Türhüter, der davor steht, dass es möglich sei, aber nicht zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt. Er wartet darauf, dass ihm der Türhüter Einlass gewährt, "Tage und Jahre", sein ganzes Leben lang.
Ein Bericht für eine Akademie: Eingefangen von einer Jagdexpedition der Firma Hagenbeck, monatelang gehalten in einem bedrückend engen Käfig auf einem Dampfer, sucht der Affe einen Ausweg. Er ahmt die Menschen nach, weil er so "unbehelligt" sein will, wie sie es offensichtlich sind.
Auf der Galerie: Es handelt sich nicht um eine Erzählung mit fortlaufender Handlung. Vielmehr werden zwei extreme Varianten einer (Künstler-)Existenz, aus der Sicht eines auktorialen Bewusstseins dargeboten.
