Publisher's Summary

Blakley Barclay knows her parents are up to something. They’ve been matching all her siblings and even some other people in her hometown of Mistletoe.

But the man they’re wanting to pair her up with? A huge pro-ball player with more muscles than brains, and she is not interested.

So, she turns to her best friend for help.

Martin Zedler is on the receiving end of some match-making of his own. He is equally uninterested.

Blakley’s proposition that they pretend to be interested in each other to foil the romantically inclined efforts of her parents seems like a good idea. Until a well-meaning do-gooder enters them into Mistletoe’s annual Christmas Kissing Contest.

When they’re crowned the winners, the town goes on a crusade to catch them kissing every chance they get.

How will their friendship ever survive?

A great listen!

A fun listen! Sweet, clean, lots of religious overtones (doing what God wants us to do and be) which i love, and fun tie ins to other books about other siblings. Also, great narration!

Learning to put others first is hard or is it?

Blakey and Martin have been best friends for years but when her parents step in and try to get them interested in someone else strange things start happening and they don't understand what is going on. Blakey is also a trick horseback rider and her whole life has been working towards winning the competition to go on the Road with the rodeo. Martin also has dreams of being a bronco busting rider and has been in many competitions. These two characters are great people and the people that surround them are very loving and supportive of the desires they have. But when something unexpected happens their lives are thrown in chaos as they wonder what God's purpose is for their lives. This book will keep you smiling as you listen in to their thoughts about how God wants them to act but the rebellion inside makes them wonder about themselves. This is a really sweet story and it was nice to see a conclusion to their problems. Ms. Gussman always fills her books with words of wisdom from the bible that applies to her characters but it also is encouraging to us. From her newsletters and books you can tell that she is a woman that lives for God but also has lots of fun and mishaps along the way. Mr. Dyess also always does a wonderful job of bringing the story to life for us.
I received a free code for this book from the publisher to listen to on Audible.com. This review is my own honest opinion.

Outstanding

Dreaming of Her Best Friend’s Kiss is a sweet and clean romance with a fantastic storyline with challenges that most people can relate to. Knowing the right thing and doing the right thing are entirely different things. The characters are adorable and are well developed. The narrator gave an unbelievable performance...he blows my mind with his talent every time I listen.

Cute, clean friends-to-lovers trope

Story: 4.5 stars

Friends to lovers isn't my favorite trope, but this one was really good with some great banter between the protagonists! I especially loved the kissing contest, it was so romantic!

I also really enjoyed Blakely's character arc. She grew and sacrificed and hence learned to appreciated all that she had. In the difficult process of growing, and as a result of that growth, she ended up with her happily ever after.

There are some deep conversations/internal musings that both Blakely and Martin have. They are about God taking away something we really wants because it's time for our life to go in a different, better direction.

There are some seriously funny conversations about romance novels! I was laughing out loud!

Race and Penny's conversations at the beginning and end of the book were adorable! I can't wait for Journee's story!

Narration: 5 stars

Once again, Jay Dyess excels at variations in his voices. There are conversations where it is easy to distinguish exactly who is talking, even without the help of "he said/she said". His cowboy accent is SO believable and the overall atmosphere that his voice creates makes Jessie Gussman's writing that much more special. There is one part where Blakely hears (in her thoughts) God speaking and I was literally crying, it was so beautifully read/acted.

A reminder to be open to what's in front of us!

The things that I most liked about this book were the lessons in humility, following God's plan, and appreciating the people in our lives and recognizing the love we have in our lives. Jay did great in his portrayals of the characters!

Another Winner by Gussman!

I have really enjoyed this series and this book fits in perfectly. Love is so much sweeter when you are friends. It was so easy for everyone else to see Blakely and Martin were meant for each other, but they had to see it for themselves.

As always, Jay Dyess is awesome with the narrative.

I was gifted a copy of this audiobook from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Spunky, Humorous, Touching Romance

I am loving this sweet series, set around people with souls both strong and beautiful. Can you challenge someone to step back out of their own way and see that sometimes the biggest challenge is letting go of their own ideas?
Blakely is a girl who has spunk and likes a challenge. No wonder her chosen profession is trick riding. Her parents think that they might see God’s plan for her, but she tends to take everything in life as a challenge. Can they show her that sometimes it’s better to step back.
Martin is her opposite yet complementary to Blakely in so many ways. But, he’s just her friend... Right?
Mr. Dyess did a great job of narrating the inner turmoil of selfless choices. I think that is the part that spoke to me most when listening. He gave voice to thoughts often entrenched more in feeling than words.
I received a review copy of this book and the audiobook. I am leaving a voluntary review.
