Publisher's Summary
Her dark past could become her future, and only one man can save her.
The dream is always the same. The terrifying stalker. The gaping abyss. She can see herself running, desperate to escape the huge black beast waiting to devour her. For Kassandra Grey, there is only one refuge from her nightmare - and a horrifying secret hidden in the swirling mists.
Braden Sheffield first spies her on a deserted beach - a lone figure who emerges from the fog like a stunning apparition. Betrayed by the woman who was to be his bride, the world-weary duke of Sherburgh is captivated by Kassie’s youth and beauty, by her candor and the tinkling music of her voice. But Kassie’s life is in grave danger. As passion ignites between them, Braden vows to protect Kassie no matter the cost - and to preserve a love that could be the fulfillment of their happiest dreams.

Good plot ruined by sappy prose & narration
I almost DNF because, although the storyline was good and there were interesting scenes,:
1) the author kept banging on with great repetition about how Kassie was exquisite with a childlike innocence. It got tedious, fast.
2) as someone who wanted to protect Kassie, Bradon seemed to make himself absent alot. Also, hankering for a 15y.o. girl he met once when in his late 20s (or was it early 30s?) would not have been so creepy had the author chosen not to have Braden obsess about Kassie's childlike innocence' and beauty so much despite her now being 18. A female of 18 was considered within the ideal marriageable age during Regency times and adult enough to entertain and run households, so the story shouldn't have been annoyingly cringey as it was..
3) the narration - what can I say? Kassie's Yorky accent was strong and undoubtedly correct but she sounded like a 12y.o scullery maid; rather distracting given points 1 & 2 and the fact that it was only the servants that seemed to have Yorky accents despite Kassie being of gentry.
4) the potential to add a bit more meat to the bones of the storyline was missed with so much repetition of same/same sentiments.
I had to labour through this one and would've been peeved had I used a credit to purchase. Thankfully I did not.
These are just my thoughts. If this doesn't bother you and you like a story with steamy scenes, go for it. But I wouldn't recommend.
