Für den belgischen Dichter Lode Vanermen war die deutsche Sprache von Anfang an ein Refugium für seine ganz eigene Poesie, die sich - ganz (sprach) bewusst - weder um vorherrschende Moden der Literaturgeschichte noch um die Usancen des Literaturbetriebs kümmert. "Draußen scheint der Regen" ist eine Sammlung von Kurzkapiteln, in denen kurzerhand alles Denkbare - "ob mensch, pflanze, tier, stein oder artefarkt" - wortschöpferisch imaginiert werden kann. Sein Ansatz ist altmodisch avantgardistisch. In seinen Texten gesellt sich Lyrisches zu Romaneskem, vermischt sich Zartes mit Grobem, Mythologisches wie Alltagstaugliches mit Sprachspiel und -ernst, exakt Vermessenes neben kalkuliert Verschnittenem.
