Dragondrums is the spellbinding tale of Piemur, a mischievous young singer who makes an incredible journey to the dark, uncharted realms of Pern. When his voice suddenly changes, he fears his time among the Harpers has ended. But the Masterharper has a special assignment for the singer. On a daring mission to the mysterious Southern Continent, Piemur searches for the secrets of the Old-timers—and his own role in Harper Hall’s future.

These harper hall stories are great

The Peimur story was easy listening. By book 3 I was accustomed to the narrator.

Great story, almost flawless delivery

I’ve been a fan of Anne McCaffery, and particularly her Pern series, for nearly 4 decades and being able to hear her stories spoken is magical. DragonDrums was always one of my favourites and Sally Darling’s narration suits this and the others in the series well. My only nitpick, similar to many other audio versions of books I already know, is that there are a couple of slightly different pronunciations that she uses that tend to irritate me when I hear them. For instance, I always figured that the N in N’ton’s name would be pronounced the same as it is in Norton, for which N’ton is the abbreviation. To me it sounds a bit like Nehtonn whereas Sally pronounces the N’t as if it were in the word don’t. But we agree on most other riders’ names like F’lar and F’nor. It’s a minor quibble and possibly I’m in the minority but it’s the reason I gave 1 less star on performance. Other than that, I love it.

If you’re a Pern fan and debating whether to hear the books you’ve read, I highly recommend you pay the world a visit again.

Solid sci-fi

Good vintage science fiction novel. Excellent author with many books in the Pern series. Solid character development and nice narration

Pronunciations spoil reading.

Why is 'shone' pronounced 'shown' - that is worst and most frequent. And again so much emphasis is misplaced- please, rehearse each chapter before recording.

Excellent Adventure

I really enjoyed this mostly solo adventure, with elements of a great escape, survival in nature and even a little sea voyage.
