The Dr. Sebi Diet was developed by Alfredo Darrington Bowman, a self-taught herbalist who found excellent nutritional value in some foods. Despite his name, however, Dr. Sebi did not hold a PhD, nor was he a medical practitioner.

For instance, pneumonia is caused by mucus accumulation in the lungs, while diabetes is a result of excess mucus in the pancreas. According to Sebi, his diet raises the alkaline level in your body. This in turn prevents the formation of mucus, and makes it difficult for infection-causing organisms to survive. Furthermore, this diet induces cell rejuvenation and the elimination of toxic substances from the blood and body, promoting improved health and stronger resistance to illnesses. There are many Dr. Sebi-approved supplements that, combined with the recommended foods, constitute this diet.
