About this listen

Australia has more things that can kill you than anywhere else. Nevertheless, Bill Bryson journeyed to the country and promptly fell in love with it. The people are cheerful, their cities are clean, the beer is cold, and the sun nearly always shines.©2000 Bill Bryson (P)2014 Audible, Inc. I must say that I am a fan of Bill Bryson and this book helped me a lot to understand a little bit more about the country I'm living now. I really recommend it for those who are curious about why this country is so peculiar...

It is an amazing review of what is Australia

As an Australian tour guide myself I learnt several new things in this thoroughly enjoyable book. Great read

A comprehensive insight into travelling Australia

Being written around 1999 this is a real time capsule of Australia at the turn of the millennium. It is brilliantly written, and gives a very entertaining account of his travels around Australia, with some fascinating history thrown in.

Seven Eighths through this book, knowing I had read it before, I went through my boxed books and found a paper back and a hardcopy of this title. I knew had had read it before, but anything written by Bill is always worth a second or if not peruse always lifts. I have no regrets listening to it this time and will listen it to again gladly. Thank you Bill, love your splurging of all that you see, experience and encounter.

Very much enjoyed this book, especially as an Australian learning more about my own country. The pronunciation of a few words is off, and the accent used for dialogue with the locals is terrific and terrible at the same time, yet it all contributes to the fun of listening. Don't get me started on his description of cricket... I almost had to pull over on the drive home from work in hysterics!

Great book for a laugh

Interesting read. For someone that was not a native of Au, lots of good background information for the land down under.

I love Aun

loved it

Interesting and well researched memoir of an Aussie trip but the attempted Aussie accent by the narrator is woeful which is a shame because it takes the edge off what is otherwise a good listen.

Interesting memoir of an Aussie visit

Bill Bryson is a wonderful writer and narrator. My second choice would be to have it read by an Australian. William Roberts was the wrong choice, especially when he chose to attempt an Australian accent

A pity Bill didn’t narrate it himself

Contrary to other reviewers here I actually greatly enjoyed the narrators American accent - after all the author of the book, Bryson, is American. Hearing him try to pronounce the many Australianism’s like Gidday mate and no worries in a slightly mangled American version was just perfect! Roger Perth

Narrator was great
