Publisher's Summary

From the bestselling author of What Have You Done comes a mind-bending pause resister involving a series of dark crimes from the past.

When police investigator Susan Adler is called to the roadside murder of a fellow state trooper, she's tasked with finding the people responsible for the cold-blooded act caught on the trooper's dashboard cam. She traces the car to a nurse who, along with her elderly patient, has been missing for days. At the old man's house, she finds disturbing evidence that instantly revives two cold cases involving long-missing children.

The investigation takes a chilling turn when people involved with both the nurse and old man begin to turn up dead, and Susan enlists the help of her friend and forensic investigator Liam Dwyer. Together they must untangle the threads of this ever-more-complicated case - and stay ahead of whoever's trying to slash their progress. The old man's failing memory adds urgency: wherever he is, he's no doubt lost, confused, and in extreme danger.

What started as a traffic stop gone wrong quickly unfolds into one of the darkest cases of Susan's career, and it all leads to a sick, desperate killer. Susan and Liam must work fast to save the old man’s life and keep future victims from the killer's grasp.

Lots of Twists

I loved the characters and the narrator did an excellent job of bringing the story to life.

Don't Ever Forget

This book was okay. It was action packed with sinister things happening. However, I would like to forget the details. There were gross things happening and perhaps that is the ways evil people may rationalize their evil deeds but thought there would be some redeeming value at the end. I should have stopped listening to this and I will make decisions to stop reading similar books in the future. I have stopped reading many books but regret I didn't end my reading earlier. I have listened to other books by Mathew Ferrell and enjoyed them so I will probably listen to others but make a decision to quit if something is similar to this one.

Great read

It was a wonderful thing to see a family healing after a trama. Susan and Liam made a great team. I hope to read more of them in the future.

Not a good narrator

I’m so sorry to say this, but this narrator and her breathy performance did not grow on me. The conclusion of the story also felt rushed, as there were still some unexplained things.

fantastic

I loved the first two installments in this series and this one did not disappoint. the way this author plays with what's real and what's not is really great, and I'm always invested in the characters. there are no sex scenes, and just a little bit of language.

Not fantastic..

I can't figure out if I liked this story or not. It did kind of drag out and some of it was boring and some was interesting. BUT the end, with what Sheriff Brody had to say was very exciting. I would never have guessed. I did feel sorry for James, Alzheimer's is such a horrible disease, but it did make for an interesting story******* Someone said there was too many characters in this but that's not true. The only people you had to know about was, Susan, Trevor, David, Cindy, James and maybe Brody. The others were just throw-away characters that were there because they were necessary but you really didn't have to be remembered******* There was no romance and no swearing. LOL maybe that's why I didn't like it all that much. I have to have some sort of swearing, especially when 'bad guys' are involved for it to be a little bit real******* As for the narration: Cynthia Farrell did an okay job. The men's voices were passable and her emotions were good. But because of the 3 men "starring" in it a male narrator would have been much better, though. IMO

Miserably sad

If you enjoy elder abuse combined with hours of sad people and a lacklustre plot, then you should get this book!

Another excellent book by Matthew Farrell

I bought the ebook and had a hard time putting it down so I ended up buying the audible also so I didn't have to. This book kept me guessing until the very end with lots of twists and turns. I've already got the next Matthew Farrell book downloaded and ready to go!

An ok story

The story didn't 'grab my interest and I almost gave up after the early chapters. The story did pick up but ..... only ☆☆☆. It is meant to be the first in a series but there is a back history for two of the main characters that are referred to on a number of occasions. Knowing these might have helped this story.
