About this listen

I have one rule to live by: Don't Date a DILF.

I've seen the consequences of blurring the boundaries between teaching life and dating life, and I'm not about to take that kind of risk.

But I didn't count on Hunter Rhodes walking into my school. Never expected that the broad-shouldered, stubble-jawed, absolute glory of a man would be such a sweet and caring father. Or that as a seemingly straight man, he might decide he wants me.

If my Nana has her way . . . I'll be in love with someone by the end of the school year, but there's only one man who tempts me. With her matchmaking in overdrive and half the single women in Granville setting their sights on Hunter, faking a relationship could give us both a reprieve, but at what cost?

It might be fun and games for Hunter, but separating pretend feelings from real won't be so simple for me. And then there's that rule . . .

Can I date a DILF without disaster—or will all my fears come true?

Contains mature themes.

This is a fake dating to more romance, featuring Clark and Hunter, and is the first book in the Rules We Break In Granville series.

Hunter returns to his home town with his son after his divorce a year earlier. He meets Clark at the school to discuss his son joining the extra curricular program Clark runs. Clark volunteers to tutor Hunter’s son to get him up to speed with his schooling and both MMCs get to know each other enough for Hunter to volunteer to date Clark to get the meddling grannies off their backs.

Spending all of this time together, Hunter realises he is attracted to Clark, yay!

This rom com is so well written. It’s funny, heart warming, low angst, and filled with great characters and a bit of swoony times and spice. Clark and Hunter are adorable together. Highly recommend! Make sure you read the short story at the end too as it covers their wedding.

I’m diving straight into book two now.

Things to expect in this MM romance are:
Fake dating to more
Rom com
Single dad x teacher
Size difference
Meddling grannies
Slow-burn
Bi-awakening
Calls him angel

Story of Clark and Hunter

Hunter Rhodes isn’t sure he made the right decision returning to his home town with his resentful son, Toby, after his marriage broke up. For a start, Toby is acting out, still entertaining the hope his parents will get back together—something Hunter is determined won’t happen. Toby’s poor behaviour leads to his placement in an afterschool program, run by the delightful teacher, Clark Fletcher. Clark and Hunter have something in common: their status as singles leads to well-intentioned matchmaking, flirty manhandling, and disastrous dates. Desperate, Hunter suggests they pretend to date each other and, while that solves some problems, it also creates new ones as the two secretly move from fake to real boyfriends.

This fake-relationship / family-drama / small-town / bisexual-awakening romance is the first in the Rules We Break series, a spinoff from the Games We Play series. Being a spinoff, there were a bunch of extraneous characters and previous plots mentioned, which is always a bit off-putting if, like me, you haven’t read the previous series. Luckily, the action quickly hones in on Clark, Hunter, and Toby. I pretty much liked this heartwarming book. Clark and Hunter were decent, there was no clichéd “big misunderstanding” or “eleventh-hour fallout”. I thought the big role Toby played in the story was excellent; he was a substantial and compelling third character. I don’t know why this happens in m/m romance sometimes, but most of the women were portrayed unsympathetically—but that was my only gripe. 🎧 Iggy Toma is always a strong audio performer, and he does his usual excellent job here.

Some hot parent-teacher nights!
