About this listen

Val

When I was nine, I went to my first funeral. Along with accepting my father's death, I had to accept new and awful truths I wasn't prepared for.

When I was nineteen, I went to my mother's funeral. We weren't close, but with her gone, I became more alone than ever before.

Sure, I have a half-brother who runs The Alliance. And yeah, he's given me his protection—in the form of a bodyguard and chauffeur. But I don't have anyone that really knows me. No one to really love me.

Until I meet him. The man in the airport.

When one chance meeting turns into something hotter, something more serious, I let myself believe that maybe he's the one. Maybe this man is the one who will finally save me from my loneliness. The one to give me the family I've always craved.

Dom

The Mafia is in my blood. It's what I do. So when that blood is spilled, and one funeral turns into three, drastic measures need to be taken.

When this battle turns into a war, I'm going to need more men. More power. I'm going to need The Alliance.

And I'll become a member. By any means necessary.

Book 3 of the series and best so far in my opinion. Dark Mafia getting better as it goes along. While they are stand alone best read in order for the better experience. I love the forced marriage trope and the MMC Dom was obsessed with MFC Val. He did some pretty out there stuff to keep her- but they didn't spend the whole book hating on each other. Dom ❤️ my goodness! what a mouth !! Hot Hot Hot LOVED🫶🏼 him. Val could have done with being a bit tougher but it still worked 😉
The narrators did an excellent job- top marks all around. Moving on straight away to book four

Firstly I need me a Dom cause hot damn! Secondly I absolutely loved this book!!! The narrators were great they did an amazing job.

The storyline hooked me from the very beginning. I went into this blind and is the first S J Tilly book for me and I am so sad I have been missing out all this time on these books.

I know I did this backwards but I’m about to go back and devour the series from the beginning cause I need more and I need to know king and Nero’s stories before I dove into Hans!!

Amazing read!!

I liked both the male and female leads, they both showed strength when it was needed. Not sure I'd survive a marriage to Dom, however! The narrators were excellent in intonation and emotion, too. Well done to you both!

Story: 5/5 ⭐️
Spice: 4/5 🌶️
Narrators: female = 4.5 ⭐️ & male = 4 ⭐️

Ok to my unexpected delight, this one was my absolute favourite of the so far, by a MILE. The MMC (Dom) did 3 highly problematic things to the FMC (Val) that would obviously never fly in real life but were important to the plot and character development. Wasn’t a huge fan of them tbh, but other than that, the rest of this book was PERFECTION 👌

Things I loved:
❤️ Pulled me into their story right from the start
❤️ The FMC & hearing her inner monologue (her overthinking was super relatable)
❤️ Was ultimate airport stranger fantasy
❤️ Their banter actually had me laughing out loud (which rarely happens for me)
❤️ How she’d remind herself about things her therapist said
❤️ Heartbreakingly devastating backstory left me in tears (again rarely happens)
❤️ The way Dom was obsessed with her
❤️ His devotion (and his tattoos 🤤)
❤️ The spicy scenes were 🥵🔥👌

Only dislikes:
👎 the male narrator didn’t do Dom justice/wasn’t suited to a character with Latino heritage. I think they should have chosen a different narrator.
👎 obviously the deceptions were a bit uncomfy at times (but understandable)

This was so much better than I expected.
My absolute favourite SJ Tilly book hands down

The story started out lovely but then turned so utterly toxic that I absolutely hated Dom, and thought Val was crazy for accepting him. Slightly redeemed by the ending but I wish I could have returned this book!

Did not enjoy this one

Dom was the most problematic of the series to far. And Val was pretty weak, better character development for was needed for her. It was very light on plot. I think I’ll listen to the last one in the series to finish it off though.

Least favourite so far
