Story
In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Publisher's Summary
Camille Coduri reads this brand new novelisation of the Ninth Doctor’s debut TV adventure. “Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!”
In a lair somewhere beneath central London, a malevolent alien intelligence is plotting the end of humanity. Shop window dummies that can move – and kill – are taking up key positions, ready to strike.
Rose Tyler, an ordinary Londoner, is working her shift in a department store, unaware that this is the most important day of her life. She’s about to meet the only man who understands the true nature of the threat facing Earth, a stranger who will open her eyes to all the wonder and terror of the universe – a traveller in time and space known as the Doctor. This is the story that relaunched Doctor Who for the 21st Century, novelised by showrunner Russell T Davies from his original script. Running time: 4 hours 10 mins.

Brilliant!
The book itself was exactly what I expected: chock full of extra details which made me happy as a reader (listener?), but also gave new layers of meaning to the episode when I went back and watched it again after having ‘read’ this book. Because I am that kind of reader. And honestly, some of the details involved actually make the episode a lot more heartbreaking. Clive, my man, I am so, so sorry. Mickey, my dude…..I am so sorry.
If you’re looking for a gentle introduction into science fiction, or into the general Doctor Who franchise, I really would recommend this audiobook or the novel itself, which I will be acquiring when I have the space to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the detail, and the denouement of the novel.

Rose with additional context
Just a bit more context in the novelization when compared to the TV story. I’m a true believer that I love the character Rose bc her creator, Russell T Davies clearly did (and still does). A nod to the parallel world, a fateful New Year’s encounter and an oblivious Donna Noble are a few examples of why this is worthwhile to RTD loving Whovians. Also a great performance from Camille Coduri.

Loved it!
Excellent as always. I enjoyed how much more in depth the story went. The episode was good. It'll always be a favorite of mine, but the story rounded it out very nicely. Not only did I learn more about Rose and her mother, but I also got more info about side characters so that they weren't just random faces to later be forgotten.
And I absolutely loved Camille Coduri as the narrator. It's odd at first hearing Rose's mother as both the Doctor and Rose, but you get used to it. It just goes to show how good I find her that I can forget who she really plays and lose myself in the story.

addition of the Disgraceful chib’s era doctor who
brilliant retelling but think its abit disgraceful that they added the addison of Jodie in it and ruined the emersion for me. as in my head cannon the doctor died after Capaldi. over all story 5 stars but that addition takes it down to a 2 star sorry :/

Fun introduction into the target books
Great story as an introduction into the target books, this novelisation added so much to an already great story, including making Mickey Smith feel like a more warmer character and you can see why him and Rose together, there is also some trans representation which I appreciate so much.🏳️⚧️

I hope they do more of these
nice to get some back stories, and to see RTD included some references to the post Rose days. I grew up on James Blish star Trek episode adaptations, so this type of novelisation is exactly what I like. Camille is always a great narrator.

Brilliant Story, Brilliant Narrator. Loved it
Spoilers
The begining of the new era for Doctor Who and some of my favourite characters. Rose, Jackie, Ricky.
This story may have been played on the small screen as the first episode of the re-invented Doctor Who, but the audio book was still exciting.
Camille Coduri is a great narrator and brings the story to life. I loved it and was sad when it ended.
