Story
People work; folk play. That is how it has been in this country for as long as Sam can remember. He is happy, and he understands that this is the way it should be. People are bigger than folk. They are stronger. They do not need food or water. They do not need the warmth of a fire. All they need are jobs to do and a blacksmith to fix them when they break. The people work so the folk can drink their moonshine, fish a little, and throw horseshoes. But once Sam starts to wonder why the world is like this, his life will never be the same.

Story
Eight hundred years ago, the Zhen Empire discovered a broken human colony ship drifting in the fringes of their space. The Zhen gave the humans a place to live and folded them into their Empire as a client state. But it hasn't been easy. Not all Zhen were eager to welcome another species into their Empire, and humans have faced persecution. For hundreds of years, human languages and history were outlawed subjects, as the Zhen tried to mold humans into their image. Earth and the cultures it nourished for millennia are forgotten, little more than legends.

Publisher's Summary
George is a middle-management, middle-class, middle-aged guy who hates his job and struggles to stay connected to his wife and teenage children. Most guys might end up with a steamy affair and a flashy car for their midlife crises, but George gets a quirky philosophical physics professor named Shiloh. Trapped with this mysterious misfit on his morning commuter train, George is dragged into awkward conversations about love, fear, music, and the meaning of life. Shiloh also asks George to beta-test an app he wrote for the new Apple Watch - and with a free watch included, how could he say no?
When tragedy strikes, throwing George out of his uncomfortable comfort zone, he learns that Shiloh’s app lets him journey through alternate versions of his past. As challenges mount in his own reality, George must make a decision that will change him - and possibly the entire multiverse - forever.

Original blend of science fiction+ human interest
This is very interesting story that kicks off from a very ordinary, relatable circumstance - striking up a conversation with a stranger on a train - which leads to incredible and unforeseeable consequences. It's true that you never know what a new person can bring to your life, whether for good or for ill, and when you throw parallel universe time travel into the mix, the results of a seemingly chance occasion are all the more significant. But although the science is interesting to follow, the core of the story is the healing and renewal of a man's relationships with his wife and family. Finding the balance between this crux of the matter and the fantasy/science fiction multiverse aspect of this book must have been difficult to achieve, and I commend the author for his efforts in this regard. I liked the music element that pervades the novel - from the chapter titles to the bands and musical references throughout the book. Music is important to George's son Alex, to George and Elena, to Shiloh. It's a theme that I relate to, and I enjoyed hearing about it. The narration was also excellent, and th narrator's voice and use of expression suited the main character particularly well. A good listen, overall.

Time Does Matter
Kevin A Kuhn nails time travel in this sci-fi adventure of alternate parallels in one man's past. George is dealing with seemingly familiar days. He and his family are distracted by work, school, sports, and accidents that keep happening. George is stuck in a rut, when he meets a man named Shiloh on a morning commuter train. Shiloh has some important questions to ask George. George is given an Apple watch to beta test. He finds out he can travel back in time to help answer these questions, and get some perspective on life. This book is an A+. An amazing read. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, always wondering what will happen next.

Time Travel with a Human Twist
Books focusing on time travel are often complex and loose themselves in the implications and effects of the device. This book, however, is different. Rather than focusing on the time travel, this book focuses on the characters and the lives they are leading. Listening to this book resulted in more self-reflection than my typical book experience, and that is not a bad thing. Just the simple... 'if you could pick 10 days to relive, which would they be' was a fun conversation topic in my household. If you are looking for a time travel book full of action and suspense, this isn't really for you. If you want a book about living life with a plot driven by time travel as a way to reflect on your life and choices, then give this one a listen. I truly enjoyed the journey. Now, the obligatory, "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Awesome Story With an Amazing Underlying Message
I received a free credit for this book in exchange for an unbiased review. This book was absolutely awesome... the whole story is told perfectly. The only problem I have is the narrator didn't provide a greater range of voices for the characters in the book. I had a tough time differentiating between the characters when they're speaking, so I had to pay very close attention to the conversations held. Now, onto what was so awesome. The whole story had an amazing underlying message. It reminded me of several other books that have allegorical stories like The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The Noticer by Andy Andrews, and any of Og Mandino's books. What I took from this specific book was a message about being present and making an impact on someone's life. You are either a spark that will have an impact in the world or a spark for someone else. Definitely listen to this book and pay attention to the conversations. Shiloh is a major conversation starter and the spark for the main character, George.

Everyone needs a Shiloh in their life
I loved this story line and feel inlove with Shiloh, though sometimes his perky and positive narrative was about at times. I think that this interpreted stranger was exactly what George needed in his life. the take away I got in this book was to accept the chances that come along in your life.

Great
Familiar technology and time travel equate to deep life reflection for George. A struggle to find a sense of one's self and what is really important, inadvertently stems from the newfound luxury of being able to re-live his most meaningful life events. Do you even realize? This book was very interesting both in the story concept and, though unexpected, in the takeaways you get from the story as a reader. This was an enjoyable story to listen to and very original. I enjoyed the narrator, he sounded like the perfect George in my mind's picture of him. Highly recommended! Wonderful reminder to not take life for granted!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This took me just a bit to get into the story. Had just a bit of a slow start to me, but once it got going, boy I was hooked. Such a wonderful story line that really makes you think. Do you live your life to the fullest or do you take life for granted? Life really is just one car crash, one phone call away from changing forever. Appreciate what you have. If you could go back and change things would you? What if you did things wrong when you go back? What if you could not stop it even if you go back? Such things to have contemplate when the power is suddenly in your hands. I completely enjoyed this book. Really thought provoking. Well written and entertaining. It pulled at my heart strings many times. Narration was very good. Delivery of the story and emotions appropriate. Great book overall!

Be Prepared to Think about this one
This was by no means what I expected when I read the summary. This book is a deep thinker on life and the choices we make in living it every single day. We are all travelers in this journey. Are you a positive or a negative influence on those you interact with on your journey? No matter your background, you can choose to find good and bad not only in this story but in every part of your journey. Hopefully you will choose to look for the positive and then choose to share that with others. I thought this was a well written story designed to tell the story that it excels in telling. Sometimes it goes quite deep, but that is by design. I thought the narrator did a good job with this story even though he really was not able to do the female voices justice. He just made it work as this is told in a primarily male voice. I will be looking for more from Kevin Kuhn. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Be Here Now
Do You Realize?: A Novel Author: Kevin Kuhn Narrator: Grant Pennington I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this honest review. I always like to preface any reviews I give with this information. I am a 68 year old female who has been an avid reader since I was around 10 or 11 years old. I read primarily for pleasure. I have a great many interests and do a lot of research for personal pleasure and knowledge as well. Review: This is a review of the Audiobook version of Do You Realize?: A Novel George and Elena are a middle-aged couple with two children, who on the surface seem to live a fairly mediocre life. George has a job he hates and feels that he and his wife are gradually falling more and more "out of love" as time goes by. George commutes every day to work and in the course of commuting, he meets a man and has conversations that will eventually change his life in ways he can't begin to imagine. They discuss some major questions about life. "What is love" is the first discussion. The man he meets, (Shiloh) tells George on one of the commutes that he has some Apple watches that he has received and is working on a "time management" app for the watches. He offers George a watch and a business card with the url of where he can download the app and give it a try. George downloads the app, and notices that it appears to have odd effects; not what he would expect from a time management app. Within the course of a couple of days, George realizes he is able to go back in time by using the watch. Through the course of his trips to the past, he becomes a more self-aware man and undergoes gradual changes. This is a story unlike any I have ever read/heard. I really don't want to add any more to the plot of the story, as such, but it is important to realize that this is a multidimensional story line. There are multiple scientific hypotheses within this book and some quantum mechanic theories are discussed as well. This book discusses the nature of reality and our perceptions of what reality is. I have really mixed feelings about this story. It seems to move slowly for quite a while. We see a family who has gotten caught up in the rat race. There is not a lot of time for quality family time because everyone has so much going on in their individual lives that they have almost ceased to function as a family unit. Through the course of George's trips into the past, his gradual awareness of things he has done incorrectly; he comes to realize what each of us in this real life need to realize and to understand. Time passes so quickly. We don't know what the future holds and that every chance we get, we should say, "I love you", to those we love because sometimes the last time we say that IS the last time. The author Kevin Kuhn has written a book that is deeply thought-provoking and moving on many levels. This is not a book that has a lot of suspense or action. It is more a book about the heart, about love, about sacrifice and finally, about being here now. This book is about living in the present moment, not squandering time, not living in the past, nor wasting valuable time on regrets and mistakes we have made. This is a thinking person's book. Narrator Grant Pennington did a great job narrating this audiobook. Every time I listen to a voice actor I have never heard before, there is a period of time it takes to get acquainted with their way of narrating. Mr Pennington has a very pleasant voice and I really enjoyed listening to his narration of this audiobook. I will look forward to hearing more of him. This book is full of hidden gems; and while this is truly a great story line, I doubt it would appeal to young adults but more for mature people.

Time to get off the river, George.
If you were able to pick ten days of your life from the past twenty five years to relive, which would you choose? This gift is handed to George, a middle aged man who is struggling with his life: his job is overreaching and going nowhere, his two teenage children seem sullen and unresponsive, and the joy had gone out of his marriage. He was counting the days to retirement. Then a young man on a commuter train starts up a conversation with him and George finds himself unexpectedly looking forward to their talks about love, life and music, sport, space, success, and the need to pay attention to what is right in front of us. In Do You Realise?, author Kevin A.Kuhn has created a near perfect science fiction story of the traditional made modern kind, with a glimpse at man's discontent and a philosophical discussion on meanings and possible hope. A lifetime is lived and reviewed in these pages. Sounds a bit dull? Oh, believe me, it isn't. It is intriguing, emotional and leads the readers right into the heart of their own lives. It is also read perfectly by Grant Pennington, who, with a slightly gravelly voice, is everyman. He brings further emotion and wonderment to this story, already replete with both. This is a book not to be missed. I have to confess that it was the simple but effective cover which first attracted me even before the synopsis: shallow, perhaps, but actually a perfect fit, it turns out, for the content: simplistic but very striking, old fashioned but right up to date. I requested a copy of Do You Realise? on the strength of it, via Audiobook Boom, and was freely and generously gifted a complimentary copy by the rights holder. Thank you so much. The book captivated me, had me absorbed in the arguments presented, and reflecting on my own life and choices. This is a book to smile with, and cry, and to think about long after it's finished. Highly recommended.

Read first on Kindle
This author , considering it was his first novel has written in my humble opinion a classic. I purchased this book last year on holiday through Kindle . To say it was one of the best if not the best book I have read for years is an understatement, it grabs you from the start and never lets you go , I read it over 2 days much to my wifes annoyance because I couldn't put it down. Its one of the most emotional books I've ever read , I didn't think a book could pull my heart strings and make me smile to myself as much as this one. Now I have purchased it on Audible and started listening, .so this review is a bit premature but I'm very confident I'm in for a treat . if not I will lt you know .

I didn't like this one.
It could have been much more, it has the bare bones of an interesting story. However, I found the main character really annoying. And there was little development within the plot. We spend more time hearing the two characters discussing American pro sports, than time travel. And then there's the unrealistic priorities of the main character. Perhaps even worse though is the narration. It was almost too bad to listen through.

Enjoyed it!
My review stars pretty much sum up my feelings about 'Do You Realize?' by Kevin A. Kuhn. I jumped at the chance to listen to it because I love a good time travelling tale. Overall it is a solid 4 stars for me. The narrator Grant Pennington was excellent and his tone was perfect for this story. It felt like listening to an old friend every time I switched it on. The actual story was a great idea and quite original. The use of Apple watches etc made it feel modern and up to date. The reason I gave the story 3 stars though was because, for me, there was way too much detail at the family level. I tend to steer away from dramas like these as I don't find them interesting. Other people will differ though so I'm at pains to point out that my response to those parts of the story is unique to me. But I had to switch the speed to 2.0 x to get through those parts! I loved the time travelling though and books like this always start you thinking about what times in your own life you'd love to revisit and which ones you'd rather avoid!
