Directing Humans

As a technically and visually minded creator, this book has been unbelievably insightful into the heart, soul, and humanity of filmmaking. While this is just a first step in learning how to direct actors, after this book I feel confident enough to start making mistakes.

Fantastic tool for directors and also actors

I am an actor/director and found that the information within this book is essential and incredibly insightful. It collects multiple techniques and methods and apply them in a way that is crash and easy to follow. I also have the printed book version, and the audio version is updated and adapted in a great way and read by Judith herself so it is like being in a private coaching session with her. Highly recommend

Wished I had the physical book!!

Great read! There are a lot of great tips and experiences. It was great that there were examples of actors/actresses of when ideas were applicable.

The art of storytelling through human emotions. Possibly the best book a director could read on directing actors. let's see if I get it right! From the director of - The Cincinnati Spin. Thank You Judith - September 2020

The title is very accurate

I very much enjoyed the book and it gave me a great deal of new knowledge even though I currently study in film school. My only negative was that some of the practices presented in the book don't really happen in my country but that's not the fault of the book that's mainly for an american film maker. If you want a great book about directing actors, listen to Judith Weston!

A guide in the room

This is my favourite book on filmmaking. Very deep yet down-to earth insight in the relationship between the script, the director and the actor. It's a personal guide you'll want with you in the room somewhere during your last drafts, the casting and rehearsals and before you enter the set. I have been appreciating this book so much that, way back, I OCR-ed a scan of the paper book and had it read out aloud to me by a synthesized speech app. A lot of hassle for a crappy result, but still worth the while as I want to keep reconnecting with the material in this book again and again. You can can imagine how happy I was when I learned there was an official audiobook coming out, read by Judith Weston herself. It's a great addition.
