Sixteen-year-old Matilda is a poor Covent Garden flower girl until the day she saves the life of Tabitha, a minister's daughter. Welcomed into Tabitha's family, Matilda is offered the chance of a lifetime. She leaves behind London's slums and enters the darkest corners of New York. From there she travels across the plains to the Wild West, where San Francisco is in the grip of the gold rush. Streetwise and strong-willed, Matilda forges a new life for herself and Tabitha among pioneers like Captain James Russell - a man to whom she is deeply attracted. Struggled!!
What disappointed you about Dilly's Sacrifice?
Not sure why - but really struggled to get into this story line it seemed to go on and on forever about something and nothing! Left it to one side with 2 hours listening to go.
Any additional comments?
Think this is one of the least enjoyable books i have ever listened to - even considered applying for a refund!!

Lovely
I enjoyed listening to this story about two families, each with different lifestyles, and how their lives became drawn together. I found details of WW1 very sad and the story ended too abruptly that i wonder if there may be a sequel!

loved the story but not the narrator.
Would you listen to Dilly's Sacrifice again? Why?
I would if the narrator was different.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dilly's Sacrifice?
The history of the war
Would you listen to another book narrated by Charlie Sanderson?
Maybe, but would want to improve and not sound like reading a school book

I really enjoyed this book
this book is really good, my only gripe is that the narrator puts a lot of emphasis on the word AND, & there is some lot of them. I think it would have been better for a brief gap whilst telling the story. but it is only a minor annoyance

Good story
The storyline was good as were the characters, but the ending was extremely disappointing. Very well narrated bringing the characters alive.
