Henning Mankell war kein Autor, der sich auf ein Genre hat festschreiben lassen. Nun erscheint post mortem sein letzter Roman, der wunderbar leise von Axel Milberg gelesen wird. In der Geschichte über einen alternden Arzt, der zwar sein Haus durch einen Brand verloren hat, dem aber glücklicherweise seine Beziehungen zu dem Postboten Jansson, der Journalistin Lisa und seiner Tochter Louise geblieben sind, verarbeitet Mankell ein persönliches Thema: Wie gehen wir mit dem Altwerden um? Die Antwort auf diese Frage findet seine Hauptfigur in Paris.
