In der kurzen Schrift Die geistige Führung des Menschen (1911) knüpft Rudolf Steiner an das in der Geheimwissenschaft im Umriss entwickelte Bild der Menschheitsentwicklung an und verknüpft dieses mit einigen zentralen Inhalten der anthroposophischen Christologie. Die Schilderung der verschiedenen Arten geistiger Wesenheiten, die Teil der Darstellung ist, und das dem Text zugrundeliegende spirituelle Verständnis von Welt- und Menschheitsentwicklung ist ohne Kenntnis dieser Begründungsschrift kaum verständlich. Zugleich ist das Buch der einzige Text in Steiners Werk, in welcher dieser öffentlich seinen herausfordernden Gedanken von der Beteiligung zweier Jesus-Knaben an der Inkarnation Christi mitgeteilt hat.
