Ich kam viel zeitiger nachhause und verriegelte sofort meine Türe. Als die neunte Abendstunde heranrückte, kam sie. Da sie die Tür versperrt fand, ging sie wieder weg; sie mochte wähnen ich sei nicht zuhause. Aber ich war unvorsichtig. Ich schob den schweren Schreibtischsessel etwas jäh zurück. Das musste sie vernommen haben. Im nächsten Augenblicke pochte es. Ich blieb still. Noch einmal. Dann ungeduldig ohne Unterlass. Jetzt hörte ich sie schluchzen lange, lange... Die halbe Nacht musste sie an meiner Türe verbracht haben. Aber ich war stark geblieben; ich fühlte, dass dieses Ausharren den Zauber gebrochen hatte.
