Glenn Boulton, der Leiter des Covent Garden Market, bittet Sherlock Holmes um Hilfe. Der Markthändler Peter Bowman ist erschossen aus der Themse gezogen worden. Wenige Tage zuvor wurde der Restaurantbesitzer Sydney Alexander erstochen aufgefunden.
