Ein rothaariges Mädchen wird tot im Watt von Norderney gefunden. Es ist Merle Onken, die seit zwei Tagen vermisst wird. Wie sich herausstellt, haben Mitschüler sie in einem verlassenen Bunker eingesperrt, um sie in einem bizarren Ritual auf eine Hexenprobe zu stellen.
Alle glauben, Merle habe sich danach selbst das Leben genommen, nur ihre Mutter Gesa ist sich sicher, dass jemand ihr Kind getötet hat. Sie bittet den Bremer Kripo-Kommissar Carsten Kummer um Hilfe. Kummer ist ihr Ex-Liebhaber, und als sie ihm gesteht, dass Merle ihr gemeinsames Kind war, reist er auf die Insel und beginnt, sich in die Arbeit der dortigen Ermittler einzumischen.
Als zwei weitere Teenager brutal ermordet werden, wird klar, dass ein Serienmörder am Werk ist. Und irgendwie deuten alle Spuren auf eine sagenumwobenen Gestalt aus der Inselvergangenheit hin: eine Hexe namens Dortje, die 1544 auf Norder neye Oog gelebt haben soll, könnte der Schlüssel zu allem sein.
Ein nervenaufreibender Thriller voller Mysterien und irrer Wendungen vor schaurig maritimer Kulisse.
