Auri, 12 Jahre alte Tochter eines Deutschen Archäologen, muss die Ferien mit ihrem Vater in Frankreich verbringen, da dieser dort in einer, zum Weltkulturerbe erklärten Höhle, der "Grotte de Chauvet", Forschungsarbeiten leiten soll. Da der Zutritt dieser Höhle nur Forschern erlaubt ist, ist Auri viel allein und langweilt sich. Auf einem verbotenen Streifzug in die Umgebung der Höhle gerät sie in ein seltsames Unwetter und macht eine sensationelle Entdeckung, bei der sie allerdings in eine hoffnungslose Situation gerät, aus der es kein Entrinnen zu geben scheint.
