Scholem Alejchem, der bedeutendste jiddische Humorist, veröffentlichte 1882 diesen Briefwechsel zwischen Menachem Mendel und seiner Frau Scheine-Scheindel. Während Mendels Frau mit der Familie in Kasrikivke zurückgeblieben ist, siche Menachem Mendel in verschiedenen Berufen in Odessa und Jejupez das große Grlück und Geld, scheitert aber mehrmals und verreist schließlich nach Amerika.
