Zu einer Zeit, lange vor der unseren, streifte ein junger Mann namens Gahd mit seinem Bruder Bahs auf der Suche nach Nahrung durch die endlosen Waldgebiete Mitteleuropas.
Sie aßen von den unzähligen Beeren, Blättern und Wurzeln, die die Natur ihnen bot und hin und wieder erlegten sie ein Stück Wild mit ihren Speeren oder mit Pfeilen und Bögen.
Das Klima war milder zu dieser Zeit und die Vegetation üppiger. Manchmal machten Wölfe, Löwen oder Bären die beiden Jäger selbst zu Gejagten, doch bisher war es ihnen immer gelungen, wenn auch oft erst im letzten Moment, der tödlichen Gefahr zu entrinnen.
