Herr Kluthe bekommt einen Goldhamster, ein Geschenk seiner Mutti. Ausgerechnet, wo er doch Angst vor Tieren hat. Fritz Fuchs hilft aus und will dem kleinen Nager zu einem angenehmen Zuhause bei dem Ordnungsamtmann verhelfen. Weniger weil er Herrn Kluthe mag, sondern weil er mit dem Tier mitfühlt. Doch der Hamster haut dabei ab, und der daran mitschuldige Fritz startet eine Suchkampagne. Tatsächlich wird ein Hamster gefunden. Doch der entpuppt sich als seltener, einheimischer Feldhamster. Für ihn ein Stück echten Lebensraum zu organisieren, erweist sich für Fritz als noch schwieriger als die Ergreifung von Herrn Kluthes flüchtigem Goldie.
