Im Wald steht ein kleiner Tannenbaum. Seines jungen Lebens kann er sich nicht recht freuen. Er will schnell groß werden. Es wurmt ihn, dass Hasen über ihn hinweg springen. Er wünscht sich, dass, wenn er groß ist, Vögel hoch oben in seinen Zweigen nisten. Aber dann steht Weihnachten vor der Tür und das Bäumchen macht die Erfahrung, dass Tannen auch schon in jungen Jahren aus dem Wald geholt werden, um, festlich geschmückt, in warmen Stuben in ganzer Pracht und Herrlichkeit zu brillieren. Das Bäumchen denkt, dass dies von nun an immerfort, Tag ein, Tag aus, so geschehe. Aber nach dem Fest wird er wieder abgeschmückt und auf den Dachboden in die dunkelste Ecke verfrachtet...
