Aus einer Riesenfamilie stammte der Riesenhans, der im oberen Mühlviertel lebte. Mit siebzehn Jahren verdingte er sich bei einem Bauern als Pferdeknecht, und der Bauer glaubte, mit dem ungeschlachten, riesigen Burschen einen guten Fang getan zu haben. Aber schon beim ersten Frühstück verging ihm die Freude an dem neuen Knecht; denn dem hungrigen Riesen konnte die Schüssel nicht oft genug mit Suppe gefüllt werden, dazu aß er zwei mächtige Brotlaibe auf.
