Doch der vermeintliche Unfall entpuppt sich schnell als Mord, das Opfer wurde mit einem Pfeil erschossen. Die örtliche Polizei ist überfordert und holt sich Hilfe von Commissaire Philippe Lagarde.

Kurz darauf ereignet sich auf dem Areal eines anderen Schlosses ein ähnlicher Fall. Zwischen den Opfern scheint es keine Verbindung zu geben, doch Lagarde hat einen Verdacht, der ihn an seine Grenzen bringt.
