Der Fronleichnamsaltar, Erzählung von Peter Rosegger: Wenn der siegreiche Heiland in Brotgestalt durch das Dorf zieht, da winken sie ihm mit Palmen zu. Die Palme der Alpen ist die Birke. So wie zu Weihnachten die Tannenbäumchen ihr Leben lassen müssen, so zu Fronleichnam die Birken. Zu Hunderten werden sie auf großen Karren hereingeschleppt in das Dorf und werden an den Gassen, durch welche die Prozession ziehen wird, der Reihe nach in den Boden gebohrt zu beiden Seiten.
