Die Erzählung "Der Findling" gehört zum 2. Band von Kleists "Erzählungen", der auch "Der Zweikampf" und "Die Verlobung von St. Domingo" enthält. Sie erscheint 1811, in Kleists Todesjahr. Die Handlung spielt im 14. Jh. und basiert auf den1370 entstandenen Chroniques de France von Jean Froissarts. Neben dem beschrieben Kriminalfall und dem damit verbundenen Verrat interessiert sich Kleist vor allem für die Fragwürdigkeit des Gottesurteils, für das der Zweikampf in jenen Zeiten galt. Eingelesen hat die Erzählung "Der Findling" Elmar Nettekoven, der schon einige der bekanntesten Erzählungen Kleists erarbeitet hat.
