Es stellt sich aber heraus, dass er ein Schneider, also ein Bürgerlicher ist. Emilie ist enttäuscht und heiratet einen siebzigjährigen Onkel. Kurze Zeit später muss mit ansehen, wie Longueville ein beträchtliches Vermögens erwirbt und den Pair-Titel erbt.
