Fredag den 22. maj 1992 lidt over middag bragede der er skud midt i Skanderborg. Dette skud var indledningen til anholdelsen af to gerningsmænd, som netop havde forøvet røveri mod Den Danske Bank på Højvangens Torv i Skanderborg, og hvor fremgangsmåden var identisk med andre bankrøverier forøvet i Esbjerg, Vejle og Horsens Politikreds.
Anholdelsen førte til, at Rejseafdelingen blev tilkaldt til Skanderborg Politikreds, idet der var tale om grænseoverskridende kriminalitet. Endvidere deltog der kriminalfolk fra Skanderborg og Esbjerg Politi.
