About this listen

It was the love story of the decade… Or it should have been ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE FROM A24 STARRING SAOIRSE RONAN AND AUSTIN BUTLER

'Tender as a ballad and pleasurable as a pop song' COCO MELLORS

'Clever and heart-wrenching and addictive' MIRANDA COWLEY HELLER

'An incredibly special book' BETH O'LEARY

The first time Joe plays Percy one of his songs in his college room in 2000, she instantly realises three things:

One, she is watching a star in the making.

Two, she can shape his music into something extraordinary.

Three, she will always be on the sidelines.

She swallows her jealousy and throws herself into collaboration, transforming Joe’s songs into indie hits with her blistering critiques.

But there’s an undercurrent to the music they’re making – something undeniably electric, hurtling towards love. And then, almost inevitably, towards heartbreak.

As Joe steps into the spotlight, can Percy bear to watch on in silence?

And can he exist there without her?

Deep Cuts is an irresistible novel about passion and obsession, love and longing and, above all, our need to be heard.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one as romances usually annoy me but I found myself really enjoying it. The characters grew on me and I liked how Percy basically gave so many music recommendations I hadn’t thought to listen to! Music is a big part of my life so I’d recommend anyone who likes music to give this one a read.

Really enjoyed the music aspect

This book is just the right amount of sweet, and just the right amount of heart break. Would have loved more from Joe’s point of view but I get it would have taken away from the whole point of it. Still, the story becomes more and more relatable as the characters move through the decades.

Easy to relate to if you grew up in the 90s

This book is music education, soul searching and beautifully written… but **********disclaimer alert

****……………..
absolutely took me on a journey of frustration! I desperately wanted to give it five stars, but could not leap over the two (three or four) too many shattering sub-plots which continued to whip the air outta my book soul!

I cannot wait for the movie, as I know I’m in the book-minority group hoping that the big-screen producers will give us more of a rosy ending, to fulfil the low level heart strings delivered by the book. Eeeeeek, sorry. But also, I’m soooooo needing more from this ending, so if anyone has an epilogue - or wants to make one up, swing it over!!!!!

This book drove me nuts. It had all the elements I should have loved it but I ended up very much disliking the main characters. Ugh! It was awful to listen to them repeating the same things over and over, I finished it out of spite. Two stars.

Excruciating listen
