About this listen

What if everything she thought she knew was a lie?

Schoolteacher Rachel will do anything to protect her younger sister, Laura. So when their long-lost father shows up out of the blue and makes a shocking accusation against Laura's husband, Rachel is thrown into turmoil.

As undeniable evidence surfaces, Rachel discovers everything she thought she knew was wrong.
Has her sister's entire life been a lie? And how did her young niece get the bruises she is hiding? And who keeps calling her in the middle of the night?

As their father works his way into their lives, Rachel finds her ordered world slipping away. Already reeling from the breakup of her own marriage, she doesn't know who to trust – her father or her sister.

One of them is lying, hiding a terrible secret.

Can Rachel discover the truth before it is too late?

Dear Sister is a gripping psychological thriller with a mind-blowing twist that will leave readers turning pages long into the night. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, K.L Slater and Ruth Heald.

By chapter 12, I could not suffer another minute of Laura character. She is absolutely insufferable - the narration probably doesn’t help.
It wasn’t worth the effort to keep listening.

This book is so good 😊 you are not sure about anything right up until the exciting edge of your seat ending. I will definitely read all this author has to offer. And the narration was good too. Well done Ruth Harrow (the author).

Fantastic, edge of seat

Dear Sister is an engaging story about families, particularly sisters, and the ways in which these relationships work.

The sudden arrival of the Laura and Rachel's long-lost father causes tensions between the two sisters as they try to navigate a relationship with him amidst anger, betrayal, suspicion and a desire for fatherly affection and acceptance. The two sisters seem very different and their approach to their father throws this in high relief, with Laur wanting a father daughter bond immediately, while Rachel is more circumspect.
The book plays out more as Rachel's story as she navigates a life post heartbreak as hopes of a loving husband and children, like that enjoyed by her sister, seem to constantly elude her.
Laura seems to have troubles of her own, there is a greater tension in her household which is pushed to breaking point when her father ends up moving in.
As the sisters realize each has been keeping secrets, they start to understand that perhaps neither of them are as close t the other as they first thought.

Overall, this was a engaging book and the characters and their concerns were well paced and effective. The tension created by the father's arrival added the pressure needed to push the narrative along and the reveals were satisfying although a tad predictable in some cases.

Overall well worth your time.

Kept me interested, a solid psychological thriller

I was a little worried with the start of this book that I wouldn’t like it but before long I was really enjoying it. The storyline was great! I saw a lot of things coming but the twists at the end made me want more

Hard listening at first as the Laura character is annoying as hell.
But the twist ensured my listening as I couldnt imagine how it would end.

Good

I liked the story but hoped for Laura's redemption at the end. Perhaps the next book in the series is being written.

Psychological thriller. Who has the mental health issues?
