Publisher's Summary

Meet Zoe Finch, West Midlands Police's newest Detective Inspector. She's outspoken, ambitious, and damaged. And she's working a case that could make her career, or cost her everything...

Fresh from the success of the Canary investigation into depravity and corruption at the highest levels, she's attracted attention. Not least from Assistant Chief Constable Bryn Jackson.

But when Jackson is brutally murdered on the night of his retirement party, Zoe is dragged into a case that's deeply personal.

All the evidence points to the victim's downtrodden wife, who has secrets of her own. But Zoe begins to suspect all isn't as it seems. Could Jackson's death be linked to the Canary case? And what is her new boss, DCI David Randle, hiding?

Seeking out the truth will force Zoe to confront her own past, and put her career, and her team's lives, on the line.

Deadly Wishes is a gritty crime thriller perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Caroline Mitchell, and the BBC's Line of Duty.

I’ll try the next in series…

I enjoyed the story and concept of for the series direction (as is probably obvious but will not state my thoughts so I don’t have spoilers in my review). I think I’d love these if I read them on my kindle, but I want to use audible so I’m still able to multitask while I’m painting, cross stitching and wire weaving/wrapping, the problem is the narrator for me unfortunately. She’s got very similar voices for different characters and I don’t always cope with audio as it is, so I found myself struggling to keep track at some parts when I’m trying to figure out who’s been speaking/thinking etc and also there’s some parts that were read at a great speed, it many where it just felt like a deliberate slow drawl and it frustrated me. So I’ll give the songs book in the series a go on audible and if I don’t find it feels a lot more fluid and easy to listen to then I might have to add this my list of want to read series on kindle instead. It will just take me a lot longer to get to them but I still recommend you try these if you like other British police procedural series. Well written, casual listening and not too gruesome or depressing.

I guess it was ok

This was mildly entertaining although at times I could listen but not really comprehend. Thes books are really at times quite disappointing I want to find a brilliant book soon.
