Cold Case Detective Ronan O'Mara is looking forward to starting a new life in his new home, but when a strange house warming gift appears on his doorstep, he has no idea that it marks the start of a series of events that will put his life, and the lives of everyone close to him, in danger. When murders similar to those committed by dead serial killer Rod Jacobson start occurring around Boston, Ronan is certain he has a copycat killer on his hands.

Psychic Tennyson Grimm is approached by friends for help dealing with issues surrounding their son. He quickly realizes there is more going on with the boy than teenaged angst. Though he doesn't want to believe it, his psychic abilities and a series of strange paranormal occurrences point to a link between the troubled teen and the murder victims that are turning up all over Boston.

When Ronan is attacked during the investigation, it's up to Tennyson and Captain Fitzgibbon to find the killer without him. Will they be able to stop the murderer before the evil that surrounds him destroys them all?

I just can’t do the lovey-dovey to the extreme anymore. Not only between the main characters but all of them. I felt emotionally claustrophobic 80% of the book.

In the story itself, how did it take the team half a book to figure out what’s going on? They’re insistent it can’t be X because…. Why? They’ve not personally come across it before? But they know it exists and is possible. The hubris dripping off Ten is unmanageable as a reader.

Part of the issue with the audiobook is that while the narrator is excellent, the performance no longer fits with the story; it’s all too much. He does amazing portraying what the writer wants but when the story is so saccharine you can’t have a saccharine narrator; it needs to be pulled back slightly to be palatable. The same for the sense of panic. Emotions conveyed perfectly, but so often the characters freaked out instead of thinking about things rationally or having dialogue and the writing was so frustrating that having a great performance of that was too over the top and made me tune out.

I think this is where the series and I part ways :(

The series has turned saccharine
