Publisher's Summary

We all know Sydney is full of corruption and crime, but none of us expected to read about a Sydney businessman being shot in the back of his head, in his driveway, in front of his nine-year-old son, in Cremorne. Nor that the order would come from a Point Piper millionaire.

Kate McClymont is Australia's best-known investigative journalist. Kate and McGurk received intel that he was going to be 'hit'. Before the two could meet, McGurk was murdered. Kate and her family also received death threats and were moved to a hotel for a few days.

This story involves bumbling criminals, turncoats, snitches, developers, wealthy people brought down, and devastated families. It unpacks the structures of our major cities and asks some big big questions.

Multiple Walkley-winner Kate tells it with pace and character and her insider status.

Intriguing listening

Very intriguing listening to this thorough investigation. Possibly too detailed for me to complete every chapter.

Great insight

A very well written and read story, great insight into the going’s on in a world of money and corruption.
A lot of background work put in to find facts to create this book.

Making The Links

Kate McClymont is the sort of journalist the rest of the profession can only aspire to be.
In this well-researched and compelling tale, she manages to clarify an incredibly convoluted and complex series of events, by making the links and lines clearer without ever reducing the main players to caricatures.
Her descriptions and explanations of the various astounding personalities, their motivations, and their inexorable path to murder and betrayal are laid bare.
While there is plenty of wry and dark humour to be found in what is essentially a dreadful tale of murder for hire, she resists the urge to take cheap pot shots - making this a must read book about some of Sydney’s more notorious characters and their alleged shady business dealings.
Loved it.

Fascinating and frightening

I can't believe that this happened in my backyard. The Sydney underground is probably still alive and well extremely well exposed by Kate

Love Kate Talking.....Dead Man Walking

Great reporting, Kate McClymont has a great style and her narration is easy to listen to.

Congratulations on a great book Kate! The world of Psychopaths, Narcissistic people, who believe that rules don't apply to them and they are SO entitled, and in the end have destroyed themselves. Its unfortunate we live in a world where these people have so much power to manipulate and corrupt.

Great Read!

Corruption at it's Best!

This book is so eye-opening! If one didn't know the truth, you would think it was fiction !

Hard to follow and unpleasant subjects

I enjoyed the performance and the first chapter was good, though it's also the first chapter that the crime itself happens and is solved...
The story line was very hard to follow beyond this, as the timeline constantly jumps through time and between characters in a non-coherent manner. The individuals that are the subject matter of this book are also so horrific, without a single redeeming feature, that you just don't want to keep hearing about them.
I don't usually give up on books, but this is one that I will never finish or pick back up.
